Businesses could benefit from adding online video elements to their website marketing strategies, according to one expert.
While sectors such as the entertainment and fast-moving consumer goods industries are the most likely to be able to make the most of online video, other markets can also use the platform to enhance branding and product marketing, Modera chief executive Siim Vips said.
"Video is a very useful tool in driving awareness and sales as it can be used to communicate products and services in an easy, digestible and useful format and shared easily," he remarked.
Online video can also offer more in-depth messaging than other channels and target specific consumer groups with a view to encouraging them to share content with other members of these groups, Mr Vips added.
The comments came after eMarketer published a report predicting that US video advertising spending will account for 11 per cent of all web marketing expenditure by 2013.
