Online retailers are being urged to treat their websites like a "digital shop front for brands" when considering their web design.
This is according the chief executive officer of Moderna Sim Vipps, who said that companies should be investing extra effort into their websites, especially in the competitive online market.
"Brands need to do more than create and sustain awareness," he explained.
He added that web design should concentrate on "building loyalty with their online audience - which in turn will drive repeat visits and sales".
Websites should be prepared to conduct and manage business at the same time as enticing consumers and representing the brand, he continued.
A report published on July 22nd by dotCommerce revealed that the majority of major retailers in the UK were not making the most of value-added features on their websites.
Some of these tools include the use of editorial content, video channels and the ability for web users to leave blog posts and reviews.
