Google's mobile application launched for iPhone

27th July 2009

A tracking service in the form of a mobile application has now been released for the Apple iPhone.

The Google Latitude app allows users to broadcast their exact location to their friends and family over the web.

Owners of Android, Blackberry and Symbian S60 handsets have all had access to the app for several months, but a different version had to be developed for the iPhone.

As opposed to a stand-alone application, Apple's handset uses a browser-based version of Google Latitude, which operates through the Safari web browser.

The mobile application uses triangulation, which is a method of determining location sometimes used in court cases.

It finds a user's location by seeking out the closest wireless hot spot or phone mast.

A person's location appears as a symbol on a map and there is also the possibility to add a status update.

Mobile search revenue is predicted to grow at a rate of more than 125 per cent a year until 2013, a report by BIA's Kelsey Group claimed, reported Revolution Magazine.

It is expected to reach £2 billion in the next four years.ADNFCR-2036-ID-19281873-ADNFCR
