Google has announced that iPhone users can now access its Latitude mobile app through the Safari browser.
The offering allows mobile users to display their current location on a map for their friends to see, while also viewing the locations of their contacts.
It was first launched in February this year for the Blackberry, S60, Windows Mobile and Android platforms.
Google Latitude also includes basic search and directions functions.
Writing on the Google Mobile blog, Mat Balez of the Google Mobile team said: "Now that iPhone 3.0 allows Safari to access location, building the Latitude web app was a natural next step."
However, he noted that it is not yet possible to set apps to run in the background on the iPhone, meaning that the continuous background location updates available for other mobile devices cannot be accessed by iPhone users.
Google Latitude is available for iPhone and iPod Touch devices running the 3.0 operating system in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
