Yahoo! has launched a beta version of its redesigned homepage.
Visitors to Yahoo.com in the US can now take advantage of the ability to add third-party apps and content to their homepages, such as widgets for Facebook and Gmail.
Yahoo! users in the UK, India and France will also be able to view the new homepage in the next few days.
Other features of the redesigned portal include an app development tool, a trends tracker displaying popular searches and Yahoo! Buzz links, the ability to customise the news feed to show the right mix of topics for individual users and synchronisation between PCs and mobile devices.
Carol Bartz, chief executive of Yahoo!, commented: "Our new homepage is a perfect example of our efforts to create innovative products aimed at increasing user engagement while offering the most compelling advertising proposition in the industry."
Yahoo! recently announced an eight per cent rise in net profit for the second quarter of this year, although its revenues fell by 13 per cent compared with 2008.
