Google Earth is now allowing users to navigate the moon via a new feature.
The Moon in Google Earth offering allows web users with Google Earth 5.0 to explore a virtual representation of the moonscape and view panoramic images similar to those seen in Street View.
It also includes guided video tours from astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Jack Schmitt, as well as previously unseen video footage from the surface of the moon and information on the various rovers and other artefacts left there by humans in the last 40 years.
The content was provided by Nasa under a Space Act agreement with Google.
Michael Weiss-Malik, Moon in Google Earth product manager, said: "Forty years ago, two human beings walked on the moon.
"Starting today, with Moon in Google Earth, it's now possible for anyone to follow in their footsteps."
The launch of Moon in Google Earth is "a critical step into the future", said private space tourist Anousheh Ansari on the Official Google Blog.
