The BBC's iPlayer service now receives more hits from UK web users than social networking site MySpace.
This is according to new figures from Hitwise, which show that the iPlayer leapfrogged MySpace to become the 20th most popular UK site in the week ending July 11th.
Its statistics also reveal that the iPlayer was the second most visited online video site after market leader YouTube, with the BBC's service having its busiest week of the year so far.
Robin Goad, research director at Hitwise, noted that the iPlayer is beating MySpace in terms of traffic in two main areas.
Web-savvy and wealthy consumers with a tendency towards adopting new technology first is one group that is using the iPlayer more, while the other consists of internet users in older age categories.
"While these 'silver surfers' may use the internet less than their younger counterparts, they are the fastest growing group online," Mr Goad commented.
The CBeebies iPlayer, aimed at children aged six and under, was launched by the BBC in May this year.
