Google has predicted that the main mobile internet trend of the future will be a shift towards more powerful web browsers rather than a greater focus on mobile apps.
Speaking at the Mobilebeat conference in San Francisco yesterday (July 16th), Google Engineering vice-president and developer evangelist Vic Gundotra said it is likely that mobile web users will receive more content through full-featured browsers than via mobile apps such as those available in Apple's App Store and Android Market.
Apple recently announced that more than 1.5 billion downloads had been made from its App Store in the last year.
"What we see happening is a move to incredibly powerful browsers," he remarked, going on to state that this is now one of Google's main areas of investment.
Mr Gundotra's comments came shortly after Google announced that it was developing an operating system to be initially deployed on netbooks based on its Chrome browser.
