Apple has revealed that its App Store has seen consumers make 1.5 million downloads in the last 12 months.
It also announced that it now has more than 100,000 members in its iPhone Developer Program and over 65,000 apps currently available in the store to consumers in 77 countries.
Furthermore, over 40 million app-compatible devices - namely the iPhone in its various incarnations and the iPod Touch - have been shipped around the world to date.
Steve Jobs, chief executive of Apple, said that the App Store is unsurpassed in terms of scale and quality when compared with the rest of the industry.
"With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up," he added.
Google, Palm, Vodafone, Nokia and BlackBerry are among those companies that have either rolled out a mobile app store of their own or intend to do so in the near future.
