A software developer has launched a new satnav app for the Android platform.
The CoPilot Live app from ALK Technologies can be used on devices including HTC's Magic, Dream and Hero handsets and offers real-time travel information and turn-by-turn voice-guided GPS navigation.
It makes use of 3D mapping technology and stores maps directly on the phone, meaning that they can be accessed without connecting to the internet.
Weather forecasts and a location-sharing feature called CoPilot LiveLink are also included in the app.
Michael Kornhauser, vice-president and managing director of ALK Technologies' CoPilot division, said that the app represented a "major milestone" for the company.
"We are delighted to extend CoPilot to Android and, in doing so, help more people find their way easily in-car or on foot," he added.
It was announced last week that its Hero handset will be available on the Orange network in the UK from this month.
