A number of new releases of the mobile version of the Firefox browser have been announced by Mozilla.
Developers and web users can now download the Fennec 1.0 beta 2 for Maemo, Fennec 1.0 Alpha 2 for Windows Mobile and desktop builds for the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.
Writing in a blog post, Mozilla mobile technical lead Stuart Parmenter also revealed that members of the developer community are already starting to produce add-ons for the mobile browser.
These include GeoGuide, which makes use of location targeting to display local maps and weather, and Twitter client GraffiTwit.
"For these releases we have worked on improving the user experience, replacing our old theme with a much nicer looking one and fixing numerous usability issues," Mr Parmenter said.
"We've continued to increase performance and responsiveness."
Earlier this month, StatCounter released figures indicating that Opera overtook Apple's Safari browser for the iPhone to become the most popular mobile web browser in May.
Opera accounted for 24.6 per cent of mobile web page views, with the iPhone seeing 22.3 per cent, the statistics showed.
