Mobile app developers signing up to a new AdSense beta launched by Google this week can now monetise their creations by placing ads within them.
The AdSense service for mobile apps allows developers to put image and text ads into their apps, benefiting only from the highest-paying ads while also being able to exercise control over which ads are displayed.
Google launched the beta following a smaller trial of the scheme involving partner organisations such as Backgrounds, Sega, Shazam and Urbanspoon.
"Advertisers are looking for ways to reach potential customers when they are engaged with mobile content and application developers are looking for ways to show the best ads to their users," said Susan Wojcicki, vice-president of product management for Google.
Some $25 billion (£15.3 billion) of indirect and direct revenues will be generated by mobile apps globally by 2014, Juniper Research said in a forecast report earlier this year.
