There are a number of factors e-commerce web designers should bear in mind when it comes to call to action buttons, according to one expert.
Graham Charlton of Econsultancy called on web developers to ensure their buttons are coloured in such a way that they stand out well from the background and other content on the page and that the text on the button is clear and concise.
All call to action buttons should be the largest links on the page, as shoppers are more likely to notice them if they are particularly big, he explained.
"Putting the call to action too near other graphics, links or images will make it harder to find," Mr Charlton added.
"Make sure there is some space around it so it stands out from the rest of the page."
The expert also advised positioning the call to action button above the fold in a location where web users' eyes will already be, such as beneath the price.
Linda Bustos of the Get Elastic blog advises e-commerce web design executives to use split testing to check the effectiveness of different call to action buttons.
