Mozilla has announced the launch of the release candidate for Firefox 3.5.
The newest version of the open source web browser includes a private browsing mode, HTML 5 support, a new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine and provisions for location-aware browsing.
Other improvements include native support for Ogg Theora encoded video and Vorbis encoded audio, as well as enhancements to the Gecko layout engine.
"This milestone is focused on testing the core functionality provided by many new features and changes to the platform scheduled for Firefox 3.5," Melissa Shapiro of Mozilla said in a blog post.
The final version of Firefox 3.5 is expected to be launched later this month.
Firefox 3.5 beta users received an automatic update to the early release candidate version of the browser last week.
According to Net Applications, Firefox's worldwide browser market share stood at 22.51 per cent in May, with Internet Explorer leading at 65.5 per cent.
