Facebook is now the third most visited website in the UK, according to new figures.
Data revealed by comScore to new media age showed that Facebook had 23.4 million unique users in April, up 63 per cent compared with the same month last year.
Yahoo! had 23.1 million unique users by comparison. Google remained the most popular website overall with 33.5 million visitors during April.
Jamie Gavin, marketing communications analyst at comScore, said that the figures show Facebook is "by far" the social network with the most success in the UK, speculating that its rivals might need to focus on a particular niche to compete.
"Facebook is still taking a small share of online spend compared to time but I think the gap will shrink as brands seek better advertising and targeting is improved," he commented.
Official figures from Facebook show that the social network has more than 200 million active users worldwide, 70 per cent of whom are based outside of the US.
