It is a "myth" that Flash content cannot be indexed at all by search engines, according to one publication.
Computer Arts magazine says that there are a number of ways in which web designers can get around the limitations of Flash when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO) to make their sites easier to find by search engines.
It suggests adding SWF content to each page's HTML source and allocating unique URLs to every page on the site.
Webmasters could also set the robots.txt file to ignore SWF content and make sure it displays only HTML content to search engine spiders, the magazine comments.
Furthermore, it might be useful to add keyword-rich text to Flash apps and to build SEO into the website from the start rather than adding it on at the end, Computer Arts states.
"Improve your search engine rankings by thinking about what your SEO goals are at the same development point as wire-framing and storyboarding your Flash project," it says.
The Flash player has been installed by more than 99 per cent of all web users to date, Adobe's own figures suggest.
