TV broadcaster Five has announced a partnership with an online video platform that will enable web users to embed episodes of its shows on various websites.
The tie-up with Brightcove means that Five will become the first broadcaster in the UK to allow full episodes of its shows to be syndicated on third-party websites.
Five said that the scheme will help to increase advertising revenue as it helps it to expand the distribution of long-form content that is supported by ads.
The company's partners and its own websites will initially be the only entities to be able to embed Five programmes, although this will be rolled out to other third-party sites and consumers later this year.
"Five's syndicated player initiative significantly extends the reach of our online video programming in a way that is secure, high-quality and generates additional advertising revenue," remarked Paul Thornton-Jones, digital controller at Five.
UK traffic to online video sites soared by more than 40 per cent in the 12 months to February, according to Hitwise.
