The mobile social networking sector still has ample room for further growth, an expert has suggested.
According to chief executive of the GSM Association Robert Conway, mobile social networking has boomed in recent times as a result of the launch of increasing numbers of high-powered smartphones offering a sophisticated online experience.
He told reporters at a GSM Association board meeting in Seoul that this is still "the tip of an iceberg of usage of social networking via mobile".
Social networking websites are the most favoured online destinations for mobile web users in Europe aged between 13 and 34, according to a report released by comScore earlier this year.
Older mobile web users were found to skew towards search engines and weather websites, however.
Orange recently reported that it had recorded a 129 per cent surge in social network page impressions made by its mobile internet customers in the three months ending in February 2009.
