Web 2.0 has been established by one group as the millionth word of the English language.
Global Language Monitor (GLM), based in Texas, says that the word has been used more than 25,000 times on the internet and is therefore official.
Terms including n00b, Jai Ho and slumdog were found to be less popular than Web 2.0.
But the BBC reported that people behind traditional dictionaries are disputing the GLM's claim.
Its arts correspondent Lawrence Pollard said that lexicographers believe the language already has more than a million words if technical and obscure specialist terms are included, while words also need to be in use for a certain amount of time to become official.
Australian IT professionals often do not understand what Web 2.0 means, a relevant study commissioned by Websense has found.
The poll, carried out by Dynamic Markets and reported on CRN Australia, found that 54 per cent think that Web 2.0 includes email services in its definition.
