Apple iPhone users are 30 per cent more likely to download an application over the weekend than they are on weekdays, according to new figures.
The data, compiled by Flurry, indicated that consumers are also more likely to download a paid app on the weekend. The number of free game downloads, for example, is 26 per cent higher on weekend days than during the week, but this figure increases to 50 per cent when comparing paid games.
A theory for why this occurs is that some consumers may trial free applications during the week before deciding to buy at the weekend.
Flurry also commented on an increasingly popular trend among developers - launching a "lite" or free version of a paid application to encourage consumers to try before they buy.
However, it noted that it is difficult for developers to gauge how frequently trial versions translate into paid conversion, as this is often dependent on how niche the market for the application is.
Yesterday, Apple announced its newest smartphone - the iPhone 3G S - which comes with a three-megapixel camera.
