Opera Mobile 9.7 beta unveiled for Windows Mobile

8th June 2009

A beta version of Opera Mobile 9.7 has been made available for phones running on the Windows Mobile platform.

The browser includes Opera Turbo, which aims to make websites faster to load on mobile phones.

Browser engine Opera Presto 2.2 has also been added to the product, as has Opera Widgets.

The browser works by using Opera's own servers to render web pages, meaning that mobile devices' resources are freed up and web pages are quicker to load.

It also uses compression technology to speed up the transfer of data.

"Opera Mobile 9.7 leaves other 'sluggish' and 'painfully slow' browsers in the dust," remarked Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive of Opera Software.

He added: "Not everyone owns a 3G phone and not everyone needs to."

A beta release of Opera 10 for desktop computers - which also includes the Opera Turbo technology and a new interface - was launched last week.ADNFCR-2036-ID-19207690-ADNFCR
