Google has launched a new Firefox add-on that integrates with Firebug to help users speed up the performance of their websites.
The Page Speed tool has been used internally by Google in the past and is now available for use by other website owners.
It works by automatically optimising images to make them easier to download and display and identifying issues with CSS and JavaScript that may be unnecessarily slowing down page performance.
Richard Rabbat and Bryan McQuade of Google's Page Speed team said in a blog post: "At Google, we focus constantly on speed; we believe that making our websites load and display faster improves the user's experience and helps them become more productive."
Firebug is another Firefox add-on that lets users edit, debug and track HTML, CSS and JavaScript live in any website page.
It also comes in a Lite version that works with the Internet Explorer, Opera and Safari web browsers.
