Paid mobile video services will see significant growth over the next few years, a new report has predicted.
Over 534 million mobile users will pay for video subscriptions by 2014, according to Pyramid Research.
It said that emerging markets will be responsible for a substantial portion of this growth and suggested that 8.5 per cent of all mobile subscriptions will be made up of video services by 2014.
This is compared with a figure of 2.5 per cent at present, Pyramid Research senior analyst and report author Derek Medlin stated.
He added: "To meet surging demand for video, mobile players are making network upgrades, reducing data charges, improving content and offering more advanced handsets."
Worldwide spending on mobile advertising will surpass the $5.7 billion (£3.5 billion) mark in the next five years, according to Juniper Research.
It said in a recent report that growth will be driven by the downturn forcing businesses to reduce costs by shifting to more below-the-line marketing channels.
