New figures have been released suggesting that Opera Mini is now the most used mobile web browser in the world.
According to StatCounter, Opera accounted for 24.6 per cent of the global mobile browser market, overtaking the iPhone with 22.3 per cent.
Nokia ranked third with a share of 17.9 per cent, while the BlackBerry's browser came fourth with 6.9 per cent, up from 4.9 per cent in January.
Aodhan Cullen, chief executive and founder of StatCounter, said: "It will be fascinating to watch how this battle [between Opera and the iPhone] plays out over the year."
In April, Opera reported that 23 million people used its mobile browser in March, up 12.1 per cent compared with the previous month and up 157 per cent over March 2008.
On the desktop, Opera is currently the sixth most used web browser after Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Netscape, according to Net Applications.
