One of the most successful ways of boosting e-commerce is utilising social media, according to one expert.
Editor-in-chief of Internet Retailing magazine Ian Jindal recently compared social networking and email formats in terms of their respective success in driving online business.
Mr Jindal stated: "In terms of social media, if you look at the Hitwise data it's now clear that social media drives more traffic to retailers' sites than email."
In order to satisfy customers, Mr Jindal recommended that all the channels businesses use to attract potential buyers should be made more effective and efficient - particularly when a business uses e-commerce as part of its wider retail strategy.
He explained:"Grow the pie, improve the pie - don't argue over the last slice."
E-commerce grew by 14 per cent between April 2008 and 2009, with online shoppers in the UK spending £10 more per visit despite the recession, according to the Interactive Media in Retail Group Sales Index.
