A director of social media strategy and customer relationship management (CRM) has commented that smartphones are sometimes preferred by workers on the go than laptops.
Neighborhood America's Michael W Thomas noted that this could be due to the increasing sophistication and functionality of smartphones, as well as improvements to mobile internet.
In terms of business, he added, social media is becoming an increasingly important trend and people can now access such sites via their handset while they are working from remote locations.
"Mobile devices ... also enable social media reach-outs such as Twitter to keep your prospects, channel partners and customers up-to-date in the social media channels," Mr Thomas explained.
Those who need access to CRM information on the go may be interested in a new mobile application developed for the BlackBerry range of handsets.
Developed through a joint partnership between SAP and Research In Motion, the app permits users to access relevant customer data regardless of their current location.
