Hotels in the US are using cutting edge technology to provide room service menus to guests' smartphones and other mobile devices.
USA Today reports that a growing number of hotels are preparing to implement the technology, which enables users to place orders via their smartphones, with the bills being sent directly to either the room number or the guest's credit card.
The service could allow busy guests to order room service while out and about, once the information has been downloaded onto their smartphone, enabling them to return to their favourite meal or drink at the hotel.
Originally developed by Omni Hotels, the company has been testing out the service over the past year and is now ready to deploy it across more of its hotels.
Meanwhile, in the UK, social media is increasingly being used as a way to promote food purchases.
Just-Eat.co.uk recently announced a revamp of its website, which will be linked in to social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, where followers could get the opportunity to receive vouchers which can be redeemed at the takeaway portal.
