The alpha version of Firefox for mobile phones has been launched for Windows Mobile 6.
According to Jessica Dolcourt of CNET's Download blog, the alpha version of the Fennec mobile browser is geared towards the HTC Touch Pro just like Fennec beta 1 was made for the Nokia N810 and N800.
The Awesome Bar - a two-in-one address and search bar - is the central feature of the Fennec browser, while bookmarks and an add-ons manager are also available by flicking the screen left.
Tabbed browsing is also available by flicking the screen to the right. According to Mozilla, the browser shares the JeMalloc memory management library used by Firefox.
Ms Dolcourt said: "This resource-sharing is another indication that Mozilla is striving to create a mobile product as identical to its desktop offering on its back end as is technologically possible."
Sean Michael Kerner of InternetNews said that there is likely to be a significant opportunity for Fennec and Mozilla in the offing as more mobile manufacturers open up their platforms for various app stores.
