Nokia's forthcoming Ovi mobile app store will launch with thousands of applications, the company has revealed.
Speaking at the Nokia Developer Summit 2009, Eric John of Nokia said that the manufacturer is currently sorting through thousands of different apps submitted by developers in the hope of selling them through the Ovi Store.
He added that the company is hoping to attract more developers through the fact that it has a significant slice of the mobile phone market.
"We have extraordinary global reach and scale. And we enable developers to take what they know and build what they want," Mr John commented.
The Ovi Store is scheduled to launch in May this year.
Nokia recently announced that all of its mobile games will be made available through the Ovi Store when it goes live.
It also intends to add third-party partners - including social networks and photo-sharing sites - to the image capture and sharing features on its phones.
