High street retailers in the UK are increasingly turning to e-commerce to remain competitive, according to a new report.
The latest e-retail index from eDigitalResearch, which measures the performance of the UK's biggest e-commerce sites, revealed that Marks & Spencer moved up from tenth to first place in the last quarter.
Next, House of Fraser and BHS also moved up the table, while Asos rose up the ranks from 23rd to fifth place.
Derek Eccleston, head of research at eDigitalResearch, said that the latest standings showed that consumers are becoming more aware of traditional retailers' ability to effectively compete with their online-only counterparts.
"Marks & Spencer has made a significant investment in the entire customer journey, improving in all areas of their website and particularly strong supporting communications," he remarked.
UK e-commerce sales soared by 19 per cent in the 12 months to March, according to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index.
