Samsung unveils first Android phone

28th April 2009

Samsung has announced its first Android-powered mobile phone, which will be launched in Europe this June.

The I7500 smartphone offers a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a five-megapixel camera, up to 40 GB of memory and the ability to connect to the web via 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Because the phone runs on Google's Android operating system, users will be able to access a range of services provided by the search engine, including search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Calendar and Google Talk.

An integrated GPS receiver also lets users make full use of local services such as My Location, Latitude and Street View.

"Samsung is among the earliest members of the Open Handset Alliance and has been actively moving forward to introduce the most innovative Android mobile phone," remarked JK Shin of Samsung Electronics.

It was recently announced that the T-Mobile G1 - the first Android-enabled phone available on the market - has now sold more than one million units since its launch in the US last year.ADNFCR-2036-ID-19143288-ADNFCR
