Android 1.5 SDK launched

28th April 2009

The first release of the software development kit (SDK) for Android 1.5 has been launched.

Developers can download the SDK from android.developer.com. The kit includes multiple versions of the Android platform, as well as a new feature called Android Virtual Devices.

This offers configurations of options that are run in the emulator to model actual Android devices.

Support for SDK add-ons and the new Eclipse ADT plug-in are also included.

In addition, Xavier Ducrohet of the Android Developers blog announced that phone manufacturer HTC has made new system images available for developers to use when upgrading the Android Dev Phone 1 (ADP1) to Android 1.5.

"This new version - which is only available for the ADP1 - is based on the Cupcake branch from the Android Open Source Project and corresponds to the system image of the Android 1.5 SDK, release 1," he said.

A preview version of the SDK for Android 1.5 was released earlier this month.ADNFCR-2036-ID-19143316-ADNFCR
