The only mobile phone currently available that runs on the Android operating system has sold one million units to date in the US.
This is according to the latest financial figures for the first quarter from T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom, which show over one million G1 handsets have been sold in the US since its launch in October last year.
In total, more than 1.5 million 3G-enabled handsets have been snapped up by US consumers.
"[This] clearly shows ... that customers are demanding products and services based on these increased bandwidths and that the provision of these products and services is an important selling point in competition," Deutsche Telekon said in its earnings release.
The G1 - otherwise known as the HTC Dream - is currently the fourth most popular smartphone in the US, according to the latest Mobile Metrics Report from AdMob.
However, the iPhone saw its take-up grow at a significantly faster rate in the five months after its launch than the G1 did over the same timeframe after its own release, the mobile ad marketplace said.
