The BBC and the Times have won a major news website award at the 2009 Newspaper Awards.
BBC News and the Times Online were named the joint winners of the Electronic News Site of the Year title at the ceremony yesterday (April 22nd).
The Financial Times and the Guardian both received commendations for their respective news sites.
Other nominated news websites included those belonging to the Belfast Telegraph, Kent Online and the Telegraph.
The competition's judges praised BBC News for its "impressive" functionality, particularly its use of multimedia and Flash technology.
Meanwhile, the Herald Express won the top Best Use of New Media award for its Rockstars project, which sees readers of the newspaper take responsibility for choosing the members of a brand new band and selecting their name and the tracks to be released.
The Glasgow-based Evening Times was also highly commended for its community websites in this category.
