New research has revealed that mobile social networking is increasing in the UK.
According to a study carried out by the Opinion Matters Tickbox.net panel for the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), 25 per cent of UK adults check their social networks or upload content to them via the mobile web.
Web users aged between 16 and 24 were found to be the most likely to make use of the mobile internet for social networking purposes, with 44 per cent stating that they had previously made social network updates via their phones.
This is compared with a figure of 17 per cent for those aged 55 and over, the survey revealed.
Amy Kean, senior marketing manager at the IAB and head of the IAB social media council, commented: "Regardless of what may be the hot social media property of any particular month or year, social networking has become a core part of our daily lives."
Over 30 million consumers worldwide access Facebook via their mobile phones, according to official statistics from the social network.
