The iPhone's lead in the smartphone market is substantial, according to new figures from a mobile analytics company.
Flurry said in its latest industry report that 87 per cent of consumers use iPhone applications, compared with seven per cent who use Android and six per cent on the JavaME platform, ReadWriteWeb reports.
Furthermore, 64 per cent of all smartphone apps are designed for iPhone, in contrast to a share of 16 per cent each for Android and JavaME.
Almost 72 per cent of developers create apps for the iPhone, with 22 per cent doing so for Android.
Commenting on the figures, Sarah Perez of ReadWriteWeb said: "What's most surprising about Flurry's report isn't simply how prevalent and popular the iPhone and iPhone applications are today, but how far ahead they are of the nearest competitors."
The App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch currently offers more than 25,000 applications to more than 30 million users worldwide.
