The new Android operating system (OS) from Google could take advantage of Microsoft's proposed applications limit for Windows 7, it has been suggested.
Microsoft intends to offer a starter pack OS at a discount price that only allows three apps to run concurrently, according to ComputerWorld.
However, the website suggests this could be a mistake as consumers will favour the new Android OS, which still comes cheap and could one day come almost free, due to frustration over the app limit.
It believes Android technology could soon gain a significant market share due to its cost-effectiveness.
"Their netbooks are going to cost about half to two-thirds of what a normal Intel Atom-based machine will cost in hardware terms," the news provider said, before adding the price difference would be even greater once an OS is added.
Google chief executive Eric Schmidt recently predicted a strong period of growth for the Android computer and mobile phone system.
