A new report has suggested that growth within the mobile TV sector is starting to slow.
According to Screen digest, the proportion of 3G subscribers using mobile TV services fell from four per cent to 2.75 per cent.
Furthermore, mobile TV accounted for 1.3 per cent of all mobile data revenues last year, the research company noted.
Ronan de Renesse, senior analyst at Screen Digest, told the Times that are three main factors that need to be in place to encourage the take-up of mobile TV services.
"Investment in the network to ensure a good quality service, a sound business model and compelling content," he commented.
James Barford of Enders Analysis added that the popularity of other mobile devices such as the iPod may also be a contributing factor to the slowdown in mobile TV growth, stating that personal media players offer "a ready substitute" for those looking for a diversion when travelling.
Windsor Holden, principal analyst at Juniper Research, recently blamed the slide in mobile TV take-up on consumers being unsure of the services that are available to them and whether they are substantially different to those available through normal TV services.
