Adobe and Facebook have partnered to launch a free open source programming library for developers looking to build Flash apps for Facebook.
The ActionScript 3.0 Client Library lets developers create rich apps with Adobe's Flash and Flex software, as well as the Facebook Platform, more easily, according to the two organisations.
It supports 60 new application programming interfaces (APIs), all which are also consistent with current Facebook Platform APIs.
Existing Flash apps on the Facebook Platform will continue to be supported.
"Flash developers are already creating great applications for Facebook and the new ActionScript 3.0 Client Library for Facebook Platform will accelerate the pace of social innovation on the web," said Bryant Macy, director of product marketing for the platform business unit at Adobe.
The majority of Facebook users have installed at least one of the more than 52,000 apps currently available on the social media site's platform, according to figures from Facebook.
