The Android mobile platform is the only such operating system capable of sparking true innovation, it has been claimed.
Speaking at an event hosted by Nikkei Electronics, the Android Talk Session, head of Wireless Business at Google Japan John Lagerling said that open source technologies are the key to driving innovation, Tech On reports.
He explained that manufacturers can reduce development costs by relying on Android, while developers are able to build apps more easily by combining different application programming interfaces.
"They can also sell applications they develop around the world via Android Market," Mr Lagerling said.
"Android is the only mobile device platform that has every quality necessary to bring about innovation."
HTC released a 1.1 version of Android for the Android Dev Phone - an unlocked phone designed specifically for developers - last month.
The new software is also compatible with Android 1.0 and developers can downgrade to the original version if needed.
