Facebook has announced that it is to make further changes to its homepage following extensive feedback from users on its revamp earlier this month.
The homepage was redesigned to turn the News Feed into a Twitter-style stream of status updates from friends, with a Highlights section containing a mix of ads and feed items being added to the page.
Other changes included greater use of profile pictures on members' Walls and amendments to how Wall items were displayed.
Thousands of comments have been left on official Facebook blog posts complaining about the new changes.
Chris Cox, director of product at Facebook, said in a blog post that the website intends to add more variety to the stream on the homepage, as well as make it easier for users to control what they see in the feed.
It will also ensure the stream is updated live and that users can find the apps and services they want more easily.
"Redesigns are generally hard to manage, in part because change is always hard and in part because we may miss improvements that any individual user may like to see," Mr Cox said.
More than 1.7 million users have joined a group called Petition Against The New Facebook since the new design was launched.
