HP has released a free tool that allows web developers working with Flash to ensure their sites are secure against unintended application security vulnerabilities.
The HP SWFScan app could potentially reduce the risk of hackers gaining access to sensitive data, the company said in a statement today (March 23rd).
It works by decompiling applications developed with Flash and undertaking static analysis to understand their behaviours.
The tool is capable of checking for known security vulnerabilities that tend to be targeted by hackers such as unprotected confidential data, cross-domain privilege escalation, cross-site scripting and user input that does not get validated.
Commenting on the launch of HP SWFScan, Joseph Feiman of Gartner said: "Giving Flash developers the ability to check whether their code is secure, providing guidance on how to fix it and offering best secure-programming practices will help to protect businesses and their customers from hackers."
The latest version of the Flash Player was launched in October last year.
