Four in ten Brits use mobile web 'heavily'

20th March 2009

Four in ten consumers are heavy users of the mobile web, according to a new survey.

The poll of 1,000 UK consumers by Logica also revealed that 45 per cent of respondents want their operators to provide a mobile web portal pulling together their favourite news, social networking updates and other content.

About 42 per cent said they felt current mobile internet ads were irrelevant, but 41 per cent stated that they would be happy to receive targeted ads.

More than half of consumers revealed that their mobile web browsing habits were unlikely to change in the near future, in spite of the worsening economy.

Elaine Doherty, principal business consultant at Logica, said that the mobile web is currently "at the cusp" of mainstream consumer adoption.

"The missing link at the moment is something that brings these customers together and keeps them coming back for more," she added.

According to comScore, almost three in ten UK mobile web users only use the mobile internet for the purposes of social networking.ADNFCR-2036-ID-19085046-ADNFCR
