Google has offered a number of pointers for those looking to get started with website design testing.
Writing on the Official Google Blog, Sandra Cheng of Google Website Optimizer advised website owners to brainstorm variations of their web pages, which could include small changes such as using different images and larger ones like changing the colour scheme.
Using a tool like Website Optimizer will then let the webmaster see which pages visitors like the best by showing whether the changes helped them to fulfil a certain goal.
She went on to offer general web design tips such as ensuring the content of a page is arranged so that visitors can understand the purpose of the site within eight seconds and making it clear what the benefits of the site's offerings are.
Compelling images should also be used to engage customers, while clear calls to action are vital when it comes to a closing a sale, Ms Cheng stated.
Google launched a YouTube channel dedicated to videos offering help and advice for Website Optimizer users last month.
