Nearly 30 million UK web users watched a video online in January, new statistics have shown.
According to comScore, this was a ten per cent rise compared with January 2008, with the number of internet users watching clips on YouTube alone rising by 17 per cent to reach 23.5 million.
The figures also revealed that the BBC, Microsoft, Facebook and Yahoo! were among the other most used websites for online video, while more than 80 per cent of all web users watched an online clip.
Around 2.5 per cent of all video views could be accounted for by clips hosted by television broadcasters, with 4.8 million Britons accessing TV content and videos from their mobile phones.
All UK video viewers watched a collective 280 million hours of content during January.
Meanwhile, comScore recently reported that YouTube passed the 100 million mark in terms of US users during the same month.
