National Rail has launched an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that lets users plan their journeys on the go.
The National Rail Enquiries for iPhone app uses GPS to detect the user's closest train station and plan a journey from that location.
It can be used anywhere in Great Britain and comes with features such as the option to save regular journeys to speed up the planning process.
Extra functions are expected to be added to future versions of the app. National Rail is also set to launch a service for Microsoft Outlook that lets users plan journeys based on meeting invitations in April.
"This is the equivalent of satnav for passenger rail - it enables you to find your nearest station and plan your journey home at the touch of a screen," commented Ra Wilson, web development manager at National Rail Enquiries.
There are now 25,000 apps available for the iPhone through Apple's App Store.
