Marketing discount vouchers on a website has been described as a "cost-effective" way of promoting.
Forum of Private Business (FPB) spokesperson Phil McCabe said that online marketing is a useful way for companies offering vouchers to reach the required audience.
"It's certainly true to say that there has been a bit of an explosion of these kinds of offers being promoted on the internet," the FPB representative explained.
Using websites to spread the message as worked out "more effectively" than other methods, he added.
Digital analysers Hitwise UK conducted some research into the popularity of online vouchers recently, with the results backing up Mr McCabe's viewpoint that the internet is an ideal platform for dishing out the deals.
According to the research firm, the volume of online searches for retail discount vouchers grew 143 per cent during the 2008 Christmas period.
