Web developers can now add boxes to their sites that allow Facebook users to post comments on their content.
The social network's new Comments Box widget is the first such application to be launched as part of its Facebook Connect initiative, which lets users log in to participating sites with their Facebook details.
Comments Box consists of a few lines of code that need to be added to the website in question. Both Facebook and non-Facebook users can post comments through this service, although only Facebook members can share the comments they make through their profiles.
"Sites have seen as much as 40 to 50 per cent more comments since they added these features," remarked Ray He of Facebook in a post on the Facebook developer blog.
Facebook now has more than 175 million active users around the world, with the fastest growing demographic consisting of those aged 30 or over.
