Adobe has announced that it is to release a full-featured version of its Flash player for smartphones running Windows Mobile, Android, Nokia S60/Symbian and the new Palm operating systems.
The technology will be launched by the end of the year and will allow mobile users to watch the same videos and use the same apps as those that run on Flash 10 on desktop computers, the company said at the Mobile World Congress this week.
Phones and platforms from Google, Microsoft and Nokia that are capable of supporting the new Flash version will be released next year.
The news came at the same time as the launch of a new version of Flash Lite for standard Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile phones.
Flash Lite 3.1 Distributable Player is an over-the-air mobile runtime environment that is already available as a public beta.
David Wadhwani, general manager and vice-president of the Platform Business Unit at Adobe, said: "With this new runtime and Adobe's popular authoring tools, Adobe Flash Platform developers can unleash their creativity, develop new, innovative games and other mobile applications, and reach a much broader audience across screens and different platforms."
