Mobile ad marketplace and network AdMob has launched a new software development kit (SDK) allowing developers to display ads within their Android applications.
According to a blog post by the company, the SDK has been introduced now as Google is not expected to enable its own Android ad offering for another few months.
AdMob already provides ads for iPhone applications and said that the success of these led the company to notice that "new platforms allow advertisers to achieve their campaign goals with significantly lower friction and cost compared to traditional online ad spend".
The company also predicted that 2009 would represent an "exciting" 12 months for the Android platform as more manufacturers and mobile operators look to offer phones and tariffs for the operating system.
"App developers need a business model and we're excited offer it with ad monetisation for Android apps," AdMob said.
Earlier this month, AdMob launched a download tracking capability for the iPhone, enabling developers to track downloads made from the company's App Store ads and thereby measure their return on advertising.
